IA boosts service to Indian sectors

Indian Airlines has announced it will start a new flight from Sharjah to Trivandrum, beginning January 12, while enhancing flight frequencies to Trichy, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Bangalore, and also on its Dubai-Hyderabad sectors.

The introduction of its latest service means the carrier will directly operate from Sharjah to all the three airports of Kerala, Trivandrum, Cochin and Calicut, K. Shyam Sundar, UAE manager, pointed out in an official statement.

The flights follow an inbound Hyderabad-Trichy-Trivandrum-Sharjah route, and a Sharjah-Trivandrum-Trichy-Hyderabad routing on the outbound leg.

While flight IC989 will depart from Trivandrum on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 3.40pm with the Sharjah ETA at 6.30pm, the return IC990 will depart Sharjah at 7.30pm on Tuesdays and Saturdays and arrive at Trivandrum at 00.45am the next day.

The airline has established a special introductory economy class fare of Dh800 one-way and Dh1,500 return on this sector until January 31, the amounts being exclusive of taxes and other charges. The fares will thereafter be common-rated with those to Cochin and Calicut.

"The flight is expected to facilitate the movement of passengers from the UAE to the southern parts of Kerala besides the adjoining districts of south Tamil Nadu," he noted.

He pointed out the service will also increase the Sharjah-Trichy frequency to five, from three at present. Sharjah is already linked to Trichy via Cochin on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Effective January 10, weekly frequencies on the Sharjah-Ahmedabad-Hyderabad route will also be doubled to four, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays; and the Sharjah-Bangalore-Hyderabad service augmented to three from two, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The departure time of flights IC564 and IC962 will therefore be revised to 7.50am from Sharjah. The incoming IC563 from Hyderabad and Ahmedabad is scheduled to land at Sharjah at 6.55am, and IC961 from Hyderabad and Bangalore at 7.10am, on the same day as the outgoing flights.

Shyam Sundar added that the carrier will also increase its Dubai-Hyderabad frequency to five weekly, from three, effective January 10.

The non-stop flights depart Dubai at 6.30pm and arrive at Hyderabad at 11.00pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. The incoming flights land at Dubai at 5.40pm on the above days.

With the additions, the airline's UAE operations to Hyderabad will double to 14 per week - nine from Sharjah and five from Dubai.
