International Airport has recorded a remarkable growth in cargo operations due
to the significant services and facilities offered to cargo agents and airline
companies. This has won the airport a high reputation the world over,
making it one of the first 30 best airports in the world, according to a report
by the International Airports Council (IAC) in May. According to
the IAC report, Sharjah airport has witnessed a 22.3 per cent growth in cargo
operations, which stood at 44,251 tons. The American based Air
Cargo News magazine has also praised |
the airport
in the August issue for the facilities and services offered. It topped
the list of the Middle East airports in the volume of cargo handling in May, recording
a 36.6 percent growth. The total volume of cargo handling service in May thus
stood at 41,858 tonnes. Because of this positive development, the
Sharjah Civil Aviation Department and the Sharjah Airport Authority are pulling
resources together to see to the early completion of the new cargo buildings,
including the Dhs 35 million building No. 4, which houses the cargo, research,
marketing and customs department. |
