Airport City Link buses to stop at Rolla

THE Airport City Link introduced by Sharjah International Airport has added Rolla as an additional drop off point.

This is in addition to the earlier stops the bus made at Sharjah Airport Travel Agency, Indian Airlines office and Qatar Airways office.

The bus also stops along the route especially at the Sharjah Airport Free Zone and University City, if needed.

"Since its launch, the service has become very popular among those travelling to Sharjah airport. After studying the demands made by the users, we decided to add central Rolla to the existing stops," said Donald De Souza, business development manager, Sharjah Airport Authority. He added that Rolla was added as it served as a convenient point for passengers to find the required transport that will take them to the other emirates.

Passengers can also board the bus from Rolla if they are in time when the buses drop off passengers.

"Getting a feedback from the users is an ongoing process and we are keen to know more about what they feel. This service is aimed to minimise their troubles of either getting to the airport or getting back into the city in comfort," he said.

The Airport City Link is available at regular intervals and the frequency is planned to ensure passengers for all flights that take off and land at Sharjah Airport are catered to. A fare of Dhs3 is charged per passenger to use the buses which have a separate hold to carry baggage.

On an average, the three busses make around 60 trips a day depending on the flight timings.

"We are continuing our efforts to make people aware of this service. We have put posters at travel agencies and airline offices. This service is convenient because the frequency is quick and have a gap of less than an hour depending on the time of the day," said Souza.

He disclosed that there was no move to increase the number of busses or frequency at present.

"Even though the response to this service has been increasing, we still find that these buses remain under-utilised. But we are keeping our options open on any increase which will depend on the demand from the market," he said.

Souza also disclosed that though the busses were aimed at transporting passengers and those accompanying them to and from the Sharjah International Airport, they could also be used by the public who want to go to the area.

"There are a few picnic spots around the airport and we want to inform the general public that they are most welcome to use the service when they decide to visit these spots. Those who are interested can find out the timings of the buses from the travel agencies," he said.
